“Love is manifested in small things that make life always have a flavor of home.”
This was one of the many messages of peace that pope Francis left during his visit in a ten-day journey to the United States.
Since his arrival in Washington D.C. on Tuesday September 22, Pope Francis did not stop his itinerary. He started at the White House with a personal meeting with President Barack Obama and his family followed by a mass and a Papal parade.
What struck me was his historic speech before the Senate and the House of Representatives in a joint session on Thursday where he addressed the following issues:
- Immigration and the way we should treat others
- Protection of the family and the foundation of marriage
- Defense of human life in all its stages; no to the death penalty
- Humanity first
- The role of politics
- Fighting poverty and hunger to create and distribute wealth and jobs
- Ecology and land care: putting technology at the service of a healthy progress
- Religious fundamentalism: protect freedom of religion, ideas and people
- Ending gun trafficking
“Now is the time for bold actions and strategies to implement a ” culture of caring” and a comprehensive approach to fight poverty, to restore dignity to the excluded and simultaneously to take care of nature” – Pope Francis.
On Saturday, September 26, Pope Francis gave his speech at the meeting for religious freedom held in the Independence Mall in Philadelphia.
“Immigrants bring many gifts to the United States. Please never ashamed of your traditions. Do not forget the lessons you learned from your elders, they can enrich the life of this American land. I am thinking in particular of the vibrant faith that many of you have, in the deep sense of family life and other values you have inherited.”
There is no doubt that Pope Francis is a peacemaker and ambassador of family values. During his visit to U.S., he left a legacy and a message that will last for ages.
